The following article was published in the German magazine Stuttgarter Illustrierte in 1933 and is currently the only pre-Hollywood news article I have which relates to Luise’s work in European films. The article, titled ‘Actresses’ profiles a number of her German contemporaries, including Rita Georg, Lily Dervas, Lucie Mannheim and Hedwig Bleibtreu. There is also a good quality still photo of Luise in her debut film, Sehnsucht 202. The cover shows German actress Charlotte Susa.
The short section on Luise (begins on the second page, first column) includes quotes from an interview at a Viennese coffee shop in which Luise talks about the inspiration for her work and how she is affected by taking on tragic roles. I have yet to translate this article in full so, instead, I have included scans so that those readers who can speak German may find it interesting. If anyone wants to send a translation then please feel free!
